From 1981 to 1995, Sara and Blackie Gadarian ran Blackie ‘s Bar in Lahaina, the longest running jazz club in the Pacific. Blackie’s Bar was known for presenting quality jazz four evenings a week from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A resident trio, quartet or quintet was the regular band, supplemented by performances by internationally known jazz musicians who would appear with the group, or “sit in”. The entrance stairway at Blackie´s Bar was lined with pictures of shipwrecks and boats damaged in storms at sea. The Bar’s motto Is “Promote safe boating – Stay ashore and drink at Blackie´s Bar”. Sara and Blackie Gadarian sold the property that held Blackie ‘s Bar and Blackie’s Machine Shop in 1995. The property was converted to a gas station and convenience store. Sara and Blackie Gadarian moved the machine shop to a property in downtown Lahaina, and had their residence there as well. Sara Gadarian is carrying on with their enjoyment of jazz music to share with the world.
